OLOF NIMAR & ÖRN ALEXANDER ÁMUNDASON:
Sketch for a Collaboration Monument

Dear Minister of Culture,
We are two artists from Iceland and Sweden who have in collaboration come up with a design for a Collaboration Monument. This structure will represent a perfectly equal collaboration. We want to offer you this unique opportunity to take part in this project and have the monument built in your country.

Project description:
The idea of collaboration is problematic and often one side has to yield to the other. But when one side is more decisive in a project can it still be rightfully called collaboration? Some say that collaborations need leadership. Is this true? Or is it possible to collaborate in a completely non-authoritative, equal way and still manage to reach your goal? We used a person that we had never met as a physical embodiment of our collaboration. This person became a surrogate. We were situated in different rooms watching (via web cams) and giving directions (through headphones) to the surrogate telling him how to make a sketch of a collaboration monument. He had to listen to both of us simultaneously and follow us equally much. Here the surrogate became a transposing tool.

Afterwards we sent the final sketch to a to team of four architects from Oslo, Norway, who interpreted the sketch and transformed it into a 3D model. Attached to this mail you will find the sketch for the monument as well as photos of the model. Please take time to think about if you feel that you are prepared to have the monument built in your city/country, and don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

All the best,
Örn Alexander Ámundason
