Lars Nordby
Highway Furnitures, 2013

Nordby exhibits a photo series based on a descriptive research along the Bulgarian transport artery. Ninety examples that imitates a country's economic condition. Each image shows a billboard stand mounted solid by the highway, without advertising, and looking towards the Bulgarian countryside. The pictures are an ensemble of monuments of the past, apocalyptic exposures of the current situation and question marks on what the future framing will embody. Nordby imagines this advertising phenomenon as readymade monuments reflecting a national introspection.

Bio: Lars Nordby (1988) lives in Oslo and currently study at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. Currently he is working as the curator for the 1st Pavlikeni International Contemporary Art Exhibition, 2014 in Pavlikeni region in Bulgaria and as Art Director for Oslo Kunsthavn in Norway. Related to the show the polish artist Daria Giwer from Poznan will have a speech: ’So much the better- the outdoor advertising in the city of 'know-how'. So to explain the idea of the title (for the speech about Lars show) - in 2009 mr president of the Poznan give the new logo and motto for the town which would simplified the mission of the policy for the nearest years for all the actions in that city… I wish to quesioned that 'know how' showing to people some pictures from the town and to discuss about the esthethic of the city landscape in context of Lars´ pictures and his first action in Poznan. Daria will speak shortly about the history of the outdoor advertising in Poland from the end of XIX centrury til now.
